Part of the Norwegian Scenic Route Geiranger–Trollstigen — three mountain roads and 51 historic hairpin bends climbing from the fjord to 1,500 metres, from Ørnesvingen, the historic eagle-nesting cliffs, to the Dalsnibba Skywalk. Travel it privately, with your own guide and driver, stopping wherever the view calls.
Architectural viewpoint 620 metres above Geirangerfjord, with panoramic views over Geiranger, the Seven Sisters waterfall and the historic mountain farm Knivsflå. From here, Ørnevegen descends towards Geiranger through its famous 11 hairpin bends.
At the head of the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, Geiranger marks the lowest point of the journey at fjord level. From here, the route climbs again along the historic Geirangervegen, from the green valley towards the high mountains.
Stop at Flydalsjuvet, overlooking an 80-metre-deep gorge and one of the classic panoramic views of Geirangerfjord. On the lower platform stands Fjordsetet — the Fjord Seat, the famous “Queen’s Chair”, unveiled by Queen Sonja in 2003.
Stop beside Djupvatnet, a crystal-clear mountain lake at around 1,000 metres above sea level. The historic Djupvasshytta lodge, surrounding peaks and Blåfjellsbreen glacier form a dramatic high-mountain backdrop.
At 1,500 metres above sea level, Dalsnibba is Europe's highest fjord viewpoint accessible by road, with panoramic views towards Geirangerfjord, mountains and glaciers. The final 5 km follow Nibbevegen through 11 hairpin bends, climbing more than 400 vertical metres on a mountain road completed in 1939.
