Your night under the Arctic sky
Tromsø lies right under the northern lights oval, and on a clear night the sky can turn green, white and sometimes even pink above you. The secret is knowing where the sky will be clear. Your guide studies the weather and space-weather forecasts through the evening and drives you to wherever the chances are best — a quiet fjord shore, an open valley or, on some nights, all the way towards the Finnish border.
There is no fixed route and no shared bus. You decide how long to stay at each place, when to warm up in the car and when to move on. While you wait for the sky to wake up, there are hot drinks and Norwegian snacks, and your guide tells you about life in the Arctic, the old stories about the lights, and how to photograph them with your own phone or camera.
Your guide also takes photos of your group under the aurora, so you can simply look up and enjoy the moment. You receive them digitally after the tour.
Whether this is your first night in the Arctic or you have chased the lights before, a private tour gives you the time, the freedom and the best possible chance to see them.
Bring your passport or national ID card. On some nights the clearest sky is across the border in Finland.
